M.P. Shah Hospital Opens Waridi, a Women Health Wellness Centre Nairobi Has Been Missing

.P. Shah Hospital opens Waridi, a women health wellness centre in Nairobi offering gynaecology, antenatal care, screening and wellness support through one team.

Ask a woman in Nairobi when she last saw a doctor purely for herself, and there is often a pause before she answers. M.P. Shah Hospital has opened the Waridi Women’s Health & Wellness Centre to shorten that pause. Gynaecology, pregnancy care, screening and wellness advice now sit in one department, which makes it a women health wellness centre Nairobi patients can use without being sent around the building.

Most women put themselves last. Appointments slide behind school fees, work deadlines and a parent who needs a lift to the clinic, and by the time a woman books, the problem has frequently been around for months. Waridi has been arranged around that habit. One place, one team and fewer reasons to say “next month.”

The consulting rooms are ordinary on purpose. Gynaecologists see women for check-ups, contraception, heavy or painful periods, fibroids and the changes that come with menopause. Pregnant patients are followed from the first antenatal visit through to delivery inside the same hospital, so the doctor holding the file also knows the story behind it.

Screening happens in the same department. Breast and cervical checks are on offer, and since Waridi belongs to a full hospital, blood tests and scans are done on site instead of at a lab across town. Results go straight to the doctor who asked for them. Nearly all screening comes back clear, which is the outcome everyone wants. The few that don’t are caught while there are still choices to make.

“[Insert approved quote here from a hospital spokesperson or lead gynaecologist, with name and title, on what Waridi means for patients.]”

Then there is how a consultation feels. A woman who walks in anxious, or a little embarrassed, needs a doctor who sits still for a few minutes and answers properly. Waridi’s specialists are expected to do that, including when the question is one the patient almost didn’t ask.

The wellness side covers food, movement, stress and mood, and none of it is one-size-fits-all. A nineteen-year-old with irregular cycles, a mother of three who hasn’t slept properly in months and a retired teacher worried about her bones will not be handed the same leaflet.

The hospital describes Waridi as a permanent part of its women’s services, not a launch-month special. Patients of any age can book, whether for a yearly check-up, a planned pregnancy or a second opinion, and the team hopes they will come back as often as they need to.
