North Carolina Boys Academy, a Christian boarding school for adolescent boys in Conover, is expanding its structured programs to serve more Western North Carolina families whose sons face behavioral issues, academic failure, anger, and other life controlling struggles. The academy serves teen boys ages 13 to 17 and offers a faith based path toward lasting change.
Meeting a Growing Need for Behavioral Schools for Teens
Parents across the Hickory area and the entire state are searching for a boarding school for adolescent boys in North Carolina that does more than manage symptoms. Many families are facing defiance, drug abuse, failing grades, and emotional pain at home. North Carolina Boys Academy responds with a 15 month residential program built on discipline, discipleship, and daily routines. The academy describes itself as a program first and an academy second, because its focus is life transformation for the whole young man.
Five Areas of Development Guide Every Student
Spiritual development centers on daily Bible study, worship, and one on one mentoring. Emotional development includes LIFE model training, personal counseling sessions, and equine therapy. Academic development gives each student a tailored plan that fits his unique needs. Physical development includes fitness training, lake activities, and wilderness hikes. Family development brings parents into the process through regular communication, parent workshops, and family weekends, so healing can reach the whole household.
A Peaceful Campus and a Christian Home for Troubled Youth
The campus sits on a 16 acre peninsula surrounded by Lake Hickory, with more than 12 buildings and wide views of sunrise and sunset. Don Wilkerson, co founder of Teen Challenge, has described it as one of the most beautiful campuses in all of Teen Challenge. The academy is also moving forward with a new location under construction on Barrett Mountain, which reflects its commitment to serve more families in the years ahead.
How Families Can Begin the Admissions Process
Admissions is designed to be simple and caring for families who arrive in distress. Parents begin with an initial inquiry and then complete an initial assessment. An admissions coordinator reaches out within the week to discuss the assessment, and a campus tour may be scheduled. After the student application is reviewed by the admissions committee, parents receive an acceptance letter. Admission dates are scheduled on Tuesdays at 10 am, and transportation is arranged for each student.
