LOS ANGELES, CA, October 26, 2026 — Novastart today announced a new way for AI to use a computer: several AI agents can operate applications at the same time while the person at the computer keeps working.
Rather than handing an AI agent the only mouse and keyboard a user has, Novastart gives every agent a separate cursor and keyboard of its own inside the operating system.
As many as 10 AI agents can work simultaneously.
On Novastart's infinite canvas, each agent shows up with a labeled cursor and a window of its own. Users can see agents click, type and move through applications in real time, all while using their own mouse and keyboard independently.
It feels more like a group of digital coworkers sharing one computer than like giving the computer away to a single AI assistant.
"AI agents shouldn't need to take over your computer to help you," said Thomas Fraher, co-founder and CTO of Novastart. "You should be able to keep working while several agents work next to you, and you should always be able to see exactly what they are doing."
From a single AI assistant to a team of agents
Most AI systems that use computers work one step after another. An agent is given a task, takes over an interface, carries out a series of actions and finally hands the computer back to the user.
Novastart is built around a different model: concurrent computer use.
A user can hand a bigger task to a lead agent, which can split the work among up to 10 helper agents. Every helper has its own independent input controls and can work in a separate application or window.
For instance, one agent might research information in Chrome while another sorts the results in a spreadsheet, a third drafts a document and a fourth reviews the work, all at once.
Throughout, the user is one more independent participant on the computer.
AI work in plain sight
Novastart also tackles a second problem with autonomous AI systems: visibility.
Many AI agents work behind the scenes, so it is hard for users to know what the software is doing until a task is done.
In Novastart, agent activity takes place on the same infinite canvas as the user's own work.
Each agent has a visible cursor. Each application it opens appears as an ordinary window. Users can follow an agent's actions as they happen, step in to interrupt the work, or take control of a window themselves.
"Autonomy doesn't have to mean invisibility," Fraher said. "The more capable AI agents get, the more important it is that people can see what those agents are doing and stay in control."
A computer designed for humans and AI
Novastart replaces the traditional desktop with an infinite canvas that can hold applications, websites, documents and other workspaces across a virtually unlimited area.
Users can pan around the canvas, zoom out to see their whole workspace and sort different projects into separate canvases.
The operating system was designed from the start to support multiple independent users, whether they are sitting at the computer, connecting remotely or operating as AI agents.
This architecture lets humans and AI systems work with different applications at the same time, without constantly competing for one cursor, keyboard or active window.
Novastart currently supports more than 30 web applications as standalone windows, including Chrome, Claude, ChatGPT, Gmail, Excel, WhatsApp and Notion.
Availability
Novastart is available now at Novastart (https://novastart.com/) with Free, Pro and Team plans.
There are two ways to run Novastart.
The Novastart app runs the complete Novastart environment in a window on Windows 10 or Windows 11 and on Intel-based Macs.
Novastart OS can also be installed directly as the operating system on Intel and other x86 PCs from a USB drive.
About Novastart
Novastart is an infinite canvas operating system designed so people, teams and AI agents can work together on one shared canvas.
In place of a traditional desktop, Novastart offers an unlimited workspace where applications, websites and files can be placed anywhere. Multiple people and AI agents can use applications at the same time, each with independent cursors, keyboards and windows.
Novastart was founded by brothers Thomas and Nick Fraher and is based in Los Angeles, California.
