Pissouri Bay Divers is expanding its diving in Larnaca experiences, giving qualified divers more opportunities to explore two of Cyprus’s notable underwater attractions, the MS Zenobia and Elpida wrecks. The guided trips are designed to combine memorable wreck diving with careful planning, professional guidance and the chance to experience the marine environment around Larnaca.
Based in Pissouri Bay, the family-run PADI dive centre provides professionally led diving experiences across Cyprus. Its location allows the team to organise trips to dive sites in several parts of the island, including Larnaca, Limassol, Paphos and Pissouri, helping visiting divers experience a broad selection of underwater environments during their stay.

The expanded focus on diving in Larnaca reflects the area’s strong reputation for wreck diving. Larnaca is home to several underwater sites, but the MS Zenobia remains its best-known attraction. The large roll-on/roll-off ferry sank off the coast of Larnaca in 1980 and has since become a major destination for divers visiting Cyprus.

Measuring approximately 172 metres in length, the MS Zenobia provides a substantial underwater environment to explore. The ferry rests on its port side, with different sections accessible at varying depths. This gives appropriately qualified divers opportunities to see the wreck from different perspectives while following a dive plan suited to their certification, experience and comfort level.
One of the most distinctive features of the Zenobia is the cargo that went down with the vessel. The ferry was carrying more than 100 articulated lorries when it sank, and the remaining vehicles have become an important part of the underwater scene. The wreck also attracts a variety of marine life, adding another dimension to dives around its extensive structure.

Pissouri Bay Divers organises guided trips to the Zenobia with preparation beginning before divers enter the water. Equipment requirements, certifications and the planned dive are considered as part of the experience, followed by a detailed briefing covering the dive route, entry and exit arrangements, safety considerations and conditions at the site.

“Larnaca gives divers the opportunity to experience some truly memorable wreck diving, and the Zenobia and Elpida each have their own character,” said a Spokesperson for Pissouri Bay Divers. “Our aim is to help divers experience these sites with clear preparation, professional guidance and a dive plan that takes their training and experience into account.”

Alongside the Zenobia, Pissouri Bay Divers is highlighting the Elpida as another important part of its diving in Larnaca experiences. Elpida, meaning “Hope” in Greek, is a 63-metre cargo vessel that was deliberately sunk off the coast of Oroklini in December 2019 to form part of an artificial reef.

The Elpida rests on the seabed at approximately 30 metres, with its upper deck at around 20 metres. Its position and layout provide divers with another type of wreck experience in Larnaca, offering the opportunity to observe both the vessel itself and the developing marine habitat surrounding it.

Pissouri Bay Divers has a particular connection with the Elpida wreck. Members of the dive centre were present when the vessel was deliberately sunk in December 2019 and were among the early divers to explore the wreck shortly afterwards. The team has continued visiting the site as it has developed into an established underwater attraction.

Marine life is becoming an increasingly important part of the Elpida experience as the wreck continues to function as an artificial reef. Fish and other marine species use the vessel and its surrounding environment for shelter and habitat, giving divers the opportunity to observe how an intentionally submerged ship can gradually become incorporated into the local underwater ecosystem.
By offering guided experiences at both wrecks, Pissouri Bay Divers aims to give visiting divers greater variety when planning their time in Cyprus. While the Zenobia is notable for its enormous scale, history and cargo, the Elpida provides a contrasting experience as a more recently established artificial reef.

The company works with divers of different experience levels and provides PADI courses as well as professionally guided dives. Training ranges from introductory diving experiences through to advanced qualifications, while experienced divers can access a selection of wreck, reef, shore and boat dives around the island according to their certification and abilities.

Safety remains an important part of the company’s approach to wreck diving. Depth, environmental conditions, individual qualifications and previous experience are all relevant when deciding which areas of a wreck are appropriate to visit. More demanding wreck environments and penetration routes require suitable specialist training and should only be attempted by divers with the necessary skills and experience.

The Larnaca trips also form part of Pissouri Bay Divers’ wider selection of Cyprus diving experiences. The dive centre arranges visits to natural reefs, artificial reefs, wrecks and other underwater locations, allowing divers to build an itinerary that reflects their interests and the amount of time they have available on the island.

Pissouri Bay Divers also supports individuals, groups and dive clubs visiting Cyprus. Dive packages can include different combinations of shore and boat diving, with trips adapted around diver experience and preferred sites. Equipment is available for divers who require it, helping visitors organise their diving without necessarily travelling with a complete set of personal equipment.
Through its expanded emphasis on diving in Larnaca and guided visits to the MS Zenobia and Elpida wrecks, Pissouri Bay Divers is continuing to connect visiting divers with some of Cyprus’s most distinctive underwater locations. The two wrecks provide contrasting experiences while showcasing Larnaca’s established role as an important destination for those interested in wreck diving in the Mediterranean.
