NAIROBI, KENYA — When a restaurant’s power drops during Friday dinner service, nobody cares what time the electrician’s office closes. That gap is what Radiant Power System Limited says it set out to close, opening an after-hours line for its commercial electrical services so Nairobi businesses can reach a field engineer at night and on weekends.
Serious faults tend to arrive at the worst moment. A breaker that has been running hot for weeks finally gives out. A UPS fails the night before a bank’s month-end processing. A generator refuses to start when the grid goes down. Radiant’s engineers will now take these calls outside normal hours, working from the building’s existing records where the firm installed or maintains the system.
An engineer who already knows which panel feeds which floor doesn’t have to trace circuits from scratch at midnight. Radiant says its callout kit includes insulation resistance testers and thermal imaging gear, and every visit ends with a written note covering what failed, what was done, and what should be fixed properly later. A patch with no paperwork, the firm argues, only guarantees a second call.
The conditions it works in are far from uniform. Some of Nairobi’s newer office towers draw heavy loads all day, while older blocks still run wiring laid under earlier standards. Voltage swings are a familiar complaint in several districts, and overloaded circuits remain a common starting point for commercial fires. Clinics, cold rooms and kitchens feel an outage within minutes, since spoiled stock can’t be undone.
All work follows Kenya’s wiring regulations and the licensing rules set by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority, according to the firm.
The announcement lands as facility managers compare electrical contractors in Kenya on more than price. A question that comes up often now is whether the team that installed a system will still pick up the phone when it misbehaves. Radiant’s answer is to keep installation and support with one crew, so the people responding know the building.
Radiant Power System Limited is an electrical engineering company based in Nairobi, with more than ten years of work on commercial, industrial and institutional projects across Kenya. It handles switchgear, standby power, fire detection, lighting and routine maintenance.
