Telehealth evaluations designed to meet probation, court, and driver’s license reinstatement requirements, with guidance to help clients avoid paying for the wrong evaluation twice

AACS Counseling today highlighted its court-approved DUI Clinical Evaluation. It is a comprehensive assessment for individuals who have received a DUI, a DWI, or a drug-related DUI. Evaluations are delivered via secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth, and same-day results are available when paperwork and payment are completed correctly.

One evaluation, two separate requirements

After a DUI arrest, a person typically has to satisfy two separate entities: the court or probation system, and the state’s Department of Driver Services (DDS) or Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Satisfying one does not guarantee the other. A DUI Clinical
Evaluation is designed to serve both.
A common and costly mistake is completing a general Alcohol and Drug Evaluation at a probation officer’s suggestion, only to be told later by the DDS or DMV that a DUI Clinical Evaluation is required to reinstate a license. That means paying for a second evaluation. AACS Counseling advises clients to start by confirming exactly what their charge requires, and its team asks about the charge before recommending an evaluation.
How to choose an evaluation provider

AACS Counseling encourages anyone seeking a DUI evaluation to ask four questions:

Is the evaluator certified for this type of evaluation?
The evaluation should be accepted for the client’s specific situation.

Is the price far below similar providers?
Because DUI Clinical Evaluation pricing is typically set by the state, an unusually low price may signal a document with little value.

How long will results take?
Clients with court or DMV deadlines should confirm turnaround times up front. AACS Counseling provides same-day results when paperwork and invoices are handled correctly.

How does the provider talk about outcomes?
Recommendations vary from case to case, so be cautious of any provider who says treatment is automatically required.

Special circumstances

Multiple DUIs. Depending on the state, more than one DUI within a certain period may require a Multiple DUI Clinical Evaluation.
Out-of-state DUIs. A DUI received outside the state of residence may require an Out-of-State DUI Clinical Evaluation, which is lengthier and costs more than a standard evaluation.

What happens after the evaluation

A DUI Clinical Evaluation is typically the path to reinstating a license suspended for a DUI, though it is usually one of several requirements. Recommendations commonly take the form of an ASAM Level I treatment program. Unlike some other offenses, DUI treatment is usually measured in a span of time rather than a number of classes, and attending extra sessions in a week does not necessarily speed up completion. Long-term programs can run from 4 to 12 months. Clients are generally tested for substances as they complete treatment, and those who do not follow protocols may be required to continue.
