In April 2026, the Ministry of Interior published a list of 162 companies licensed and approved by its Security Systems Department to install surveillance cameras, and urged the public to use only registered companies.
Under Law No. 9 of 2011, covered establishments, including hotels, banks, exchange offices, gold and jewelry shops, hospitals, clinics and shopping centers, must run cameras 24 hours a day, display a surveillance sign and keep recordings unaltered for 120 days. Breaches can carry fines of up to QAR 50,000, imprisonment, and suspension or cancellation of the business license.
"The law places the duty on the business, not on the contractor. That makes choosing an installer a compliance decision as much as a price comparison," said a spokesperson for Axle Systems.
Axle Systems recommends three checks before signing:
1. Confirm the company is on the Ministry of Interior's current accredited list.
2. Ask the installer to confirm in writing whether the premises fall under Law No. 9 of 2011, and which approvals it will obtain.
3. Ask for a storage calculation showing 120 days of recordings, and a plan for passwords, access rights and firmware updates.
"A camera system is only as secure as the way it is managed after handover," the spokesperson said.
